Happy New Year!!!

I was talking with a friend of mine the other day and realized just how much my life has changed in a year. The beginning of 2012 feels like it was about a decade ago. The first few months were filled with struggles; Andy was without a job, and I was having lots of seizures (most of them were little ones). As I look back it is amazing what I see:

In January 2012, Andy and I both started the new year sick. I had a seizure within the first few weeks of January. Note to all epileptics, never take NyQuil....Ever. Turns out one of my seizure meds wasn't working anymore. I lived out the first 5 months of the year distraught and filled with fear and anxiety. But in May 2012 I started a new medication and I have been much, MUCH better. The anxiety still likes to creep up on me but all I can say is yay for relaxing Yoga and anxiety meds. lol

Andy started to take culinary classes in Fall 2011 and continued through this year. It was through those classes that he got his new job, which he loves. He has been working there since May too, I guess May was actually a big turning point in 2012.

I got to travel and see a lot of my friends and family this year. I went to WY to visit a friend, my mom flew me to Cali to spend some time with her and her hubby, and I got to go to UT and see some friends and family that I hadn't seen in a long time. I made new friends who have helped me grow. I've said goodbye to a co-worker that I've worked with for 8 years. Lucky him, he gets to live in Hawaii now...but work will be different without him and he will be missed.

2012 was a good year, but I foresee 2013 being an even better year!! Andy is scheduled to graduate in May, I am going to take some more classes and possibly decide what I want to be when I grow up. And maybe this will be the year that we become parents. HA!! I say that every year, I'm not holding my breath. lol

My resolution this year is to be a quitter. LOL No seriously, I want to quit 10 things so that I can be happy. I want to Quit procrastinating on my goals, quit blaming others, quit avoiding change, quit being controlling, quit talking down on myself, quit criticizing, quit running from my problems & fears, quit living in another time/place, quit being someone I'm not, and quit being ungrateful. Oh, I need to learn to that it's okay to say no

Now, I know that all of those things are NOT going to happen, at least not all at once. But 2013 is the year that I am going to use to change some of my habits and try to be a better person.

I want to wish all of you a very blessed new year and I can't wait to see what it brings!! Do you have a new year's resolution?

Happy 2013!!!

Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas!!! Today marks the end of our Music Advent so I have two songs that I want to share because they both have different messages that I want you to remember today. The first song is Hallelujah (Light Has Come) by Barlow Girl. I know this week some of the Christmas songs haven't really been "classic" Christmas carols but I wanted everyone to remember the meaning of Christmas. Sunday I talked about Christ being a gift to us, today is the day to celebrate and remember that God gave us His only Son to show His love; I can't imagine that kind of love. That is the ultimate act of selflessness. Parents, could you imagine giving your only child away to someone who needed them? I can't and I'm not even a parent. This song is sung as though it is Mary singing about Christs' birth. She is in awe of this little baby and she is praising God that He allowed Christ to come down and save us. Such a beautiful song, keep it in mind today as you celebrate with your loved ones.

The second song that I would like to share is Where Are You Christmas? I think this is a good song to end our advent. I just heard this arrangement a few days ago and fell in love with it. I like instrumental music but I think the little girl at the end adds so much to the song. I almost cried the first time I heard it, just sayin'. The message that I want you to gain from this song is that the joy and peace of Christmas doesn't have to come just once a year. Keep your heart and mind open with thoughts of love and joy, and you can have that Christmas feeling all year round.

Where Are You Christmas w/ lyrics

I know that life is hard and it's difficult to keep those thoughts of love and joy all year. So just remember that there is someone out there who loves you so much that He gave you His son. It is that love that should drive your year. Show compassion to those around you, think of others before yourself, and you will receive blessings that you never thought possible.

"Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God." Matthew 5:7-9

Merry Christmas and God bless,

Music Advent Calendar - Merry Christmas Darling

Merry Christmas Darling.../dreamy sigh. This song is dedicated to all of those friends and family that I can't be with this Christmas. I want to wish my Mom and Dad, Alex, Bailey, and Michael, Aunt Beth, as well as all of my in-laws, a very Merry Christmas. I can't spend Christmas with any of you this year and I just want to say that I love you all and I miss you.

There are also so many friends that I wish I was spending time with too. I am not going to name names because I don't want to forget anyone. lol You all know who you are. :) I would love to have one year when I could gather all of my family, and my friends (who are my extended family), to have Christmas with Andrew and I; I guess I have to start playing the lottery. That would be the most awesome Christmas ever. /let down sigh...Until then just know that I love you; I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.

Music Advent Calendar - I Celebrate the Day

I older I get the more I see commercialism taking over the simplicity of Christmas. The real reason that we celebrate Christmas is to celebrate Christs' birth, not see how many presents we can get underneath the tree, or who has the best decorations outside their house. The reason we give presents is because Christ was given as a present to us, and I think that has been forgotten. I love this song because it reminds me that Christ is a present that was sent from God; he was born so I can live with Him someday. I urge you to remember Christ's gift not only at Christmas but always. Lets try to take away the Christmas commercialism and focus on helping others, spend quality time with family and friends, and remember what Christmas is all about.

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
Luke 2: 8-14 NKJV

Christmas Traditions

Just a warning I'm reminiscing today, so this is probably going to be a long post. LOL I tend to reminisce a lot at Christmas, today I've got Christmas traditions on my mind. It's really kind of funny, I was talking to my mom the other day and I was trying to remember past Christmases. I couldn't really remember details about where we went for dinner or the presents that I got for Christmas growing up. There are some Christmas presents that really stand out in my head like: a Pee Wee Herman scooter, an awesome keyboard, a karaoke machine, the jewelry that Andy got me the first year we were dating, and an ipod touch (which I won't really count since I got it last year lol). But the fact that I can only remember 5 presents out of Heaven only knows how many goes to prove that Christmas isn't about what you get, but who you spend it with.

I think it's safe to say that most people, just like me, remember events, and traditions that were done at Christmas. When I was growing up we would go and see Christmas lights every year. There was this one neighborhood in Utah where every house was lit up and each yard had a portion of the Christmas story from Luke chapter 2. I went Christmas caroling with my youth group both in Utah and in Idaho. And there is this one Christmas party from Jr. High that sticks out in my brain because someone got hit in the stomach by a beef stick. LOL Oh man, that still makes me laugh.

I've found myself remembering Christmas morning traditions. For example, when I was little my brother and I couldn't come into the living room on Christmas morning until the Christmas music was turned on, then a mad dash to the living room. For a while, we had to wait to open presents until my Great Grandma came over because she liked to watch us open our gifts. And there were some years when we would go to Grandma Pearmain's house and have Christmas breakfast with pretty much the whole side of my mom's family. lol

Most of those traditions were just part of my childhood and are now a thing of the past. However, there is one tradition that has followed me into my adult life. I don't remember when it was started but every year my mom would get me a new Christmas ornament to hang on the tree; Andy and I still do that to this day. It's a really simple tradition that I look forward to every year. We buy each other a Christmas ornament and I still them from my mom too. :)

I have found myself building new Christmas traditions just over the past couple of years. First of all Andy is as bad as a little kid when it comes to presents. He has been asking if we can open presents since the first week of December, his gifts weren't even wrapped yet. So since we don't have kids yet, and I am married to a night owl, we usually end up opening presents really early in the morning...like at midnight before we go to sleep. LOL That will change once we have kids but until then, I imagine we will continue the tradition. I see two other traditions that are in the making right now; Christmas cookies, and ornament craft parties. This is the second year that I have made cookies to give to my neighbors and the second year that I have had an ornament craft party. I think I really like those two traditions so I'll keep them too. :)

If you've made it to end of my ramblings, what about you? Do you have any traditions that you remember from your childhood, or ones that you still do today? I would love to hear about them. Feel free to ramble on as much as you want to. :)

Musical Advent Calendar - Carol of the Bells

Okay, so as I was saying, I am definitely finding new arrangements that I love. This video combines a new arrangement with lights. I love it!! I've always loved it when people make their Christmas lights sync with music, they are brilliant and have more patience than me. This song is just pure awesomeness!

Enjoy!

A Day of Silence

Today is the blogger day of silence for the victims of Newtown so I will only post once but I have a song that I want to share. I had a different song picked out for today's Music Advent Calendar, but this one seemed more fitting for a day of silence. Casting Crowns takes a classic song and makes it truly beautiful.

Peace on Earth is something that we strive for but like recent events prove, the Earth may never attain real peace. This song says, "There is no peace on earth...For hate is strong and mocks the song of peace on earth, good will to men."

Even though there may be no peace on Earth this song also holds a promise that says, "God is not dead, nor doth He sleep. The wrong shall fail, the right prevail with peace on earth, good will to men." Only God is strong enough to give the peace that passes all understanding. I don't know why such horrendous things happen but one thing is for sure, God always uses everything for good. Even in the darkest hour, He gives us a glimmer of hope and love.

Today I pray for the people of Newtown, I pray that God will give peace to those families that are without their children this Christmas. My prayer is that God will take this horrible situation and use it for good and my hope for you is that you will remember what Christmas is really about. Put the Christ back in Christmas this year; hold your family tighter, show love to others, and open your heart and mind to what God has to show you.

 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27

With Love,

Music Advent Calendar - Mary Did You Know?

Mary Did You Know is a song that reminds me of Mom-mom. She used to have Kenny Rogers album and would listen to it over and over at Christmastime. I also love the message in this song.

Is there a Christmas song that makes you nostalgic?

Music Advent Calendar - Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer

Mele Kalikimaka reminds me of Mom-mom, this song reminds my Mom of Mom-Mom. I had never seen the video for it before. It's not quite the video that I had pictured but it makes me laugh. Was I the only person who thought Cousin Mel was a guy? Probably...lol

Music Advent Calendar - Il est né le Divin Enfant

I had never heard this song in French until this year. I've heard it sung in English by ze French Peas. So I'll include both just in case you haven't heard the song before. I'm sure some of the words are different, but you'll get the gist. :) Enjoy!

Music Advent Calendar - Santa Baby

Okay so a few days back I told you that there are some songs that must be sung by certain people, this another one. I love Santa Baby, but it MUST be sung by Ms. Eartha Kitt. She makes it sound so flirty and fun, and that's how it should be. Are you picky about any Christmas songs and their artists?

Music Advent Calendar - Grown-Up Christmas List

This song always brings back memories of a very hard Christmas. One Christmas, about 16 or 17 years ago, someone very dear to my heart was going through a really rough time in their life. I remember the tears, the heartbreak, and this song. I was old enough to know the truth about Santa so this was my prayer. My prayer was that God would take away this persons pain and suffering, and replace it with joy and peace.

Christmas is always portrayed as this happy, fun, joyous time of the year but in reality sometimes Christmas is not. I think at Christmas-time we tend to reminisce a little more than usual. We remember the good times, we think about our loved ones, and we all have the "perfect Christmas" laid out in our minds. But then the more we reminisce, the more we remember the loved ones that we've lost, the friends and family that are too far away, and the hard times that we've experienced over the years.

This Christmas my prayer for you is that your Christmas will be blessed; that you will be filled with love, joy, and peace even if you are in the midst of sorrow and suffering. Try not to dwell on your past, but instead look forward to your future. Mary and Joseph were not rich, they were far away from home, and baby Jesus was not born in the perfect place, but God blessed them. I think God planned Christ's birthday in such a way in order to remind us that there is hope, light, and joy even if you feel like you are sitting in the gutter; remember that Christ laid in a manger among the sheep.

Music Advent Calendar - What Child is This?

This has got to be one of my absolute favorite Christmas carols. I loved singing it when I was little. While putting together the list of songs for this Music Advent Calendar I realized that I've gotten away from listening to some of the "older" carols. I think I'm going to have to put some of these on my iPod so I can enjoy them again. :)

Music Advent Calendar - Baby, It's Cold Outside

There are some Christmas songs that have to be sung by certain artists, "Baby, it's Cold Outside" is one of them. This the version that I grew up listening to and I can't bring myself to listen to any other version. I've heard some on the radio and cringe; I feel like they've tainted the original song. So call me old school, but I love this version of this song. I hope you do too! :)

Music Advent Calendar - I Want an Alien for Christmas

This Fountains of Wayne song reminds me of my dear friend Rachel. She introduced me to this one years ago and I've been in love with it ever since. It is just not Christmas time until I've listened to I Want an Alien for Christmas. btw, my invisible alien friend, George, really likes this song too. ;)

Music Advent Calendar - Somebody's Angel

This is a brand new song that I just found last night. My mom recommended finding Mandisa so I browsed YouTube and I found this song. I love it; what a great reminder to slow down and be someone's Angel this Christmas. The season is not about what we get but it is about what we give. Keep this song in your heart and try reaching out to someone this Christmas. You might be just what they need.

Music Advent Calendar - White Christmas

It is day 2 of my Musical Advent Calendar. I hope you enjoyed yesterday's song. Today I have picked a new song which is White Christmas by Bing Crosby. I like to listen to this song while writing Christmas cards, so I'll give you one guess as to what I am working on today. ;) Since I live in AZ this is my constant dream at Christmas time. I grew up in Utah and got so used to snow on Christmas that it just never feels like Christmas without it. /sigh... For those who are buried in snow, as hard as it may be, please enjoy it for me, for those who don't have snow I feel your pain, and for those who don't want snow on Christmas, you can come and live in AZ with me. lol

Happy December!!

Well, it is December now. I haven't blogged in almost a month due to my life being super, super busy...lol I will be soooo glad when my class is over. I've turned in my final research paper and the end is in sight. Then I will never have to take English ever, ever again. YAY!! lol I may not know what my major is going to be, but it is NOT going to be English. lol

Now onto the real reason I'm writing; I love Christmas! I have decided to help everyone (including myself) get into the Christmas Spirit. So, I am going to post a Christmas song everyday up till Christmas; think of it as a music advent calendar. lol I may have to schedule them so I don't forget, but they are all hand-picked and some of my favorite Christmas songs. :)

Today's song is Christmas Time is Here, from Charlie Brown's Christmas special. That is my favorite Christmas special and the song is very fitting. It helps to remind me to enjoy and remember the reason for the season.

I hope all of these songs will bring some light, love and joy into your Christmas this year.

Holy Hannah!!

Last published September 29th...Really?! I have gone a whole month without blogging?! That is really sad and it makes me even more sad. I have missed blogging but this month seems to have been extremely busy. I had a paper that was due that seemed to suck up the majority of my time and November is going to be no different. My final paper for ENG102 is going to be due around Thanksgiving. Ugh. Now it is time to decide what I believe about deja vu and give a rebuttal. I should be doing homework now, but as I've said I have missed you!!

A lot has happened this month, aside from drowning in work and a research paper practically eating me alive I did get to go and see my friends Rachel and Sarah for a few days. Sarah is going to be a Baptist Missionary so I don't know when I'll see her again. It was great to spend time with them!

I am excited for Halloween this week!! I got a pretty dress that's red and black and am going to be a vampire lady. I have to figure out how to do my eye makeup and what color I want me hair to be. I have two dyes. I know which one I want to use for my costume but the trick is that I have another event on Friday and my hair probably shouldn't be an extreme color for that event. lol On a similar note I am torn about my nails too. I have one design that I want to do for Halloween and one that I want to do for the event at work. I could do both but I have class on Thursday night so it would be a really quick turn around, I don't think I'll have the time. :/ Plus each of them should have a whole week to themselves. LOL Gotta love how I refer to my nails as if they were actual people instead of just nails. LOL Anyway, is anyone else dressing up for Halloween?

I think I need to go and do something, maybe eat or experiment with makeup and hair. Oh I should probablly do my homework too. Ta Ta for now!

Your Vampiress,
Jessy <3

101 Progress - September 2012

Well another month has come and gone, now let's see what I accomplished this month. :)

~ Blogged about my 101 progress, obviously! ;)
~ Made a pie from a recipe that I found on Pinterest! It was a Kit Kat pie and was SUPER easy!! Graham cracker crust, Cool Whip, cream cheese and Kit Kats. mmmmm The recipe was actually for Butterfinger Pie, but Kit Kat cost less at the store that I went to. lol
~ Wrote a letter to a friend/a different friend...I'm not sure if I wrote a letter to a friend or not. But we'll say that I did and then next month I'll be sure to write down who I sent my letter to. ;)
~ Finished Reading the following book(s):
         ...um, none :( I was so busy with work and school I didn't even finish the book for book club.
      Oh Wait!! I did read one book, I forgot about it because it only took like an hour to read. LOL It was called "The History of the World According to Facebook." It was basically a bunch of Facebook Statuses from people over the years. It was a little crass, a little sacrilegious sometimes but still hilarious!!! If you are a big history buff you will get a kick out of this book. LOL
~ Attended Book Club meeting...yes I did even though I didn't finish the book. It was a small meeting of 4 and two of us hadn't read the book. So we spent most of the night eating yummy desserts and talking about movies instead of books. LOL (I think I have to start over for my 6 months since I didn't read the book this month. I plan on finishing it but I must start over for my count. I wasn't very "active" this month...lol)
~ Still writing in my journal albeit not as much this month but still writing.
~ Counted my pencils/pens; I'm at 277!! I got 6 new pencils this month; 2 of which were "Smencils" They came in a tube and I got one that smells like Peppermint and one that smells like Watermelon. mmmm
~ Counted my nail polish; I'm at 78. I got 4 new polishes this month which would've put me at 81, but I had to toss out three of my old ones. :( Including my black crackle polish /cry They were all too thick and the two white polishes were almost gone too. Also, if anyone finds my topcoat I would really appreciate it, the stupid thing disappeared!
~ Pedicure of the Month - Well, Dr. Who premiered the first weekend of September so I began my month of geeky nail designs with an abstract Dr. Who pedicure. :)

 ~ Song of the month: Last month I dedicated to Mom-mom, this month I am going to dedicate to my dad; he passed away from cancer on September 1, 2005. His favorite band was Pink Floyd. I listened to Pink Floyd on September 1st in memory of him; ironically this was the first song that started to play.

I can't wait to see what happens in October!!!

YAY!!....meh

Good Evening (mwahahaha) - LOL Sorry...Yes, it's gunna be one of those posts. lol So, once again I am procrastinating. I am trying to write my English paper and am having writer's block. For some reason it helps me just to tell someone and for some reason typing my ramblings helps too. It's kinda like my brain has to get everything out, and then I can focus. Go figure. Does anyone else have that? You just have to say what you have to say and then you're good? I started doing entries a while ago where I would just open a word doc and then write to my little heart's content. I found that it really helped clear my brain and so it's something that I do on occasion. How lucky for you, you get to read my ramblings. LOL

Ok, another topic. I guess I titled this YAY!!...meh there was a reason behind that, so I'd guess I'd better explain it eh? I want to talk about my weekend. Yesterday was awesome! Andy has been having to work on the weekends and since I can't drive that means I would be stuck at home all weekend....talk about boring. Well, yesterday was the first Saturday that he's had off in a long time so we spent the day together AND outside of the house. We went and had lunch, went to a movie, walked around the mall, had dinner and went home. It was such a simple day, but so much fun! It was good to just spend time with him. We went and saw The Expendables 2, which was great!! I loved that all of the classic action movie guys (aside from Jackie Chan) were in it. There were so many lines from some of their other movies that snuck up on ya and made it hilarious.Totally fun day!!

And then there is today....meh. Andy is not home, I have to write a paper (note: it is almost 8p), I am tired and need to go to bed at a decent hour tonight. There are definitely other things that I would rather be doing, some that I should be doing but am also avoiding, like laundry and dishes. LOL I am being a good girl and not doing the things that I really want to do, like reading and painting my nails (those will have to wait until after I have written my paper). But I am blogging, which is definitely more preferable over writing a paper.

It's funny, I really want to write this paper. I got to pick the topic and it's something that I'm interested in writing about. I'm going to be doing research on dreams and deja vu, how/if they're connected and then comparing it to the scientific explanation for deja vu. That is something that I have always been curious about and have wanted to learn more, but now that I have to write about deja vu, I don't want to. Ugh...I wish I could get over the "I have to do something, so I don't want to" hurdle that seems to cloud everything that I do. Any suggestions?

I wonder if I've written enough to help my writer's block? You are probably tired of listening to me ramble, so I guess I'll go. Now maybe I can write. All of my thoughts are there, but none of them want to go on paper. /sigh.... Any help as to how I can overcome the "I have to do something, so I don't want to" hurdle would be much appreciated. Also, if you have any insight into my topic I would love to "interview"/talk to you about it. :)

Your crazy, rambling, writer's block buddy,
Jessy <3

The Nail Files!! Calling All Geeks!

The Nail Files!! Woo WHO!! 9/7/12

This week on "The Nail Files"...

Okay. So. September 1st was the season premier of Doctor Who. Being the geeky Whovian that I am I HAD to have Doctor Who themed nails. LOL So behold the awesomeness that is my Doctor Who Themed nail art.

For those of you who aren't Whovian's this design won't make any sense to you. Are any of my blogger friends Whovians? If not you should be. LOL

Quickly, I have a couple Daleks, the Tardis, my "bowties are cool" nail in-between the Daleks and my pinky is a galaxy nail. The galaxy nails were fun and I'll probably do those on all my nails one of these days.

To keep up with my pedicure of the month, and add to my Geekyness, my toes had to match. LOL I actually did my toes first. It's good practice before you spend an hour painting your fingernails. Plus you know your design and technique so it makes it that much easier. :)

I <3 <3 The Doctor!

Your Geeky Whovian,
Jessy <3

You're a Star!!

Love, JulieBug nominated me for the Liebster award!
It's an award for blogs that have 200 followers or less and is a great opportunity to network with other bloggers. So lets get this party started! ;)

First 11 things about myself:
1. I can't spell extermely for the life of me lol - I left this one on purpose; all the others are spell-checked ;)
2. I use nail art as self induced therapy - it's a lot more fun & less expensive than real therapy
3.  I see 11:11 a LOT - I must have lots of wishes ;)
4. I am still deciding what I want to be when I grow up lol There's one problem with that, I already love my job.
5.  I have a passion for writing, but I will not be an English major...lol
6. My favorite soda is Barq's Rootbeer
7. I am lover of music
8. I like my tuna sandwiches on toasted bread and butter, with pickles :) Don't knock it till you try it lol
9. I suck at delegation, this is a known fact.
10. I am addicted to all forms of Social Networking. I am on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Get Glue, Four Square, Klout, Linked In, G+ (but that one is always so dead...*chirp chirp*), I am sure I will think of others after I have posted this blog post.
11. I honestly thought this list was going to be hard to come up with, but it was quite easy. lol

Next, questions from JulieBug:
What was the last movie you watched?
   Repo! The Genetic Opera *Caution: extremely cheesy and even more bloody*

Where did you take your favorite vacation?
  Oh which vacation to choose?! Anywhere with a beach is good, or a state with an awesome kid pool, or a  cute little town with awesome people and Red Rock margaritas! There all good. :) Vacations just rock!

How many siblings do you have and are you close?
  I have one little, yet taller than me, brother. LOL We aren't as close as I'd like to be but neither of us can talk on the phone for very long so the conversations are short and sweet. LOL I still love him and miss him like crazy tho. <3

What is something you've always wanted to learn to do?
  This is another tough one. If I have to pick just One thing...I've always wanted to learn to play the guitar.

What is the best present you've ever gotten?
  Julie, you pick great questions....just sayin'. My favorite present....hmmm. I love my iPod that my hubby got me for Christmas. I think it has only left my side a total of 3 times since I got it. LOL Ok just kidding maybe it's been 5 times. LOL

If you're house was burning what three items would you save (other than pets or people)?
  Can I lump cell phone, iPod and Kindle into one thing?! /sigh...I guess not. Ummmm...iPod, Purse and Pills...pills are an important part of my life.

Do you love to paint your nails? If so, what tends to be your favorite color?
  *MUST HAVE ALL THE COLORS!!!!* LOL Oh wait....Yes I love to paint my nails...LOL If my nail art box wasn't so heavy and extremely flammable I might have to take that case as one of my 3 things. lol

What's your favorite magazine?
  I'm not a big magazine reader. But, my mom did buy use both a subscription to All You magazine and I can't wait to get those and go through them with her!

If you could change one thing about your past what would it be and would you?
  I would go to a high school and walk as a graduate. I home schooled so I never got that experience and it is one that I wish I had.

What color pen do you write in most?
  Depends, if it's work related usually blue. But for home, pink is a favorite of mine. Of course so is purple; cuz purple is epic! ;)

What is your favorite meal?
  mmmmmm..Mexican foodz.../homer drool My favorite Mexican dish from a restaurant is Pollo Fundido aka Chicken Chimi with a Cream Cheese & Jalepeno sauce on top. And from home is my hubby's Chicken Chili Verde....mmmmm  Okay now where is the Mexican food, I am hungry. LOL

The Nail Files!!

This week on "The Nail Files"
I am posting a few weeks worth of pictures. I didn't realize how long it's been since I've done one of these posts. Oh how I miss you. lol :)

This past month (August) due to a Klout Perk I got TWO new nail polishes for FREE! Talk about Fan-TAS-tic! I decided to have some fun with "Stroke of Brilliance" and did a little Fire and Ice theme. It was awesome! The "ice" was so cool (no pun was really intended). I may have to do that during the AZ winter, when I am wishing for snow. LOL

The next week was the first week of classes, so I did "an apple for the teacher" theme.

And lastly, I FINALLY got some magnetic polish that works!! I bought some little magnetic polishes from ULTA while I was in CA and they sucked!! Never buy Ulta brand magnetic polish!! My mom sent me this new polish and I had bought a Magnetix magnet off of Amazon, together they were magical! Being the perfectionist that I am I had a little bit of a learning curve for this polish. If anyone has any tips they would be much appreciated! :)

I have already done this weeks manicure but I want to save it. It needs it's own post cuz it is just THAT awesome!! ;)

Jessy <3

101 Progress - August 2012

Here's what I did in August 2012

~ Blogged about my 101 progress, obviously! ;)
~ Wrote a letter to a friend/a different friend.
~ Finished Reading the following book(s):
       The Host
~ Things fell apart with the book club meeting this month but I did create a blog for us and have already started next month's book. :) Hopefully I'll finish this month's book quickly so I can read more than one book this month. :)
~ Still writing in my journal albeit not as much this month but still writing.
~ Counted my pencils/pens; I'm at 269 - 16 more than last month! I bought 12 (they were Muppets and Icee pencils; too cute to pass up) and I found a few around my house. Some them were pens too.
         Funny story for one of the pens. Andy and I went out to lunch and the pen that the guy gave us to sign with said "The Pen has been stolen from: Douglas Pest Control Inc." Now I know that it was prolly one of those pens that was made to look like it was stolen, but it was still fun to "steal" a "stolen" pen. But if anyone asks, just tell them that I accidentally forgot and walked away with it. ;)

~ Counted my nail polish; I'm at 77!! - 5 new ones and I got all of them for FREE!!! I got a magnetic one from my mom (YAY for packages!!), I got 2 bottles of Essie as Klout perks and I got 2 for .033 cents a piece (which is free in my book) from Julep. I'm not sure how long this is going on but if you sign up to be a Julep Maven and enter in the code PENNY you will get your first Julep Maven box for one penny. If you don't want to continue receiving Julep boxes just cancel your account after you receive your first box. :) Click HERE to learn more and sign up. :)

~ Found jewelry. I don't know if I'll ever find it all. But I found some and once it's all organized and in my jewelry box I'll count this one as completed. lol
~ Pedicure of the Month - It was the Olympics so of course I had to do something fun for that! ;)

~ Song of the month: I haven't found a specific song for me this month, so I think I will dedicate this month's song to my Grandma (Mom-mom) who passed away on August 1st 2007. There are two songs that remind me of her: Alexander's Ragtime Band and Flight of the Bumblebee. I found a really good video for Flight of the Bumblebee so we'll go with that one. :)

Book Review: The Host

Click the picture to follow me on Goodreads

"Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed.

When Melanie, one of the few remaining "wild" humans, is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Wanderer probes Melanie's thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer's mind with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.
"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This month for my book club we read The Host by Stephanie Meyer (Author of Twilight). First of all, it was hard for me to get into this book but I have said that about all of the book club books that I've read so far. I have pondered why it has been hard for me to get into the book club books and have come to the realization that it is my mentality. I think that most times I feel like I have to read the book as opposed to wanting to read it. I am going to try and get over that personal hump and focus on reading these books so that I can connect with the other people in my book club rather than thinking that it's just another book that I have to read. If you like a little bit of love, a little bit of Sci-Fi, and a little bit of fun banter I think that you will really enjoy this book and it won't be hard to get into it at all.
Once I got into this book I couldn't put it down.  I HAD to know what would happen. The two main characters, Wanderer and Melanie both existed within one body and both of them were very different. While they both longed for Jared, Wanderer had a very logical way of thinking, she loved everyone and was filled with guilt if something happened to one of the other humans. Melanie on the other hand had eyes for only two people, Jared and herself. Melanie reminded me a lot of Bella from the Twilight books, she was a little whiny, clingy and very stubborn. Melanie was trapped in her own body, unable to speak or do anything for herself, all she longed for was Jared and she made sure that Wanderer knew it. LOL
I really loved the banter between Wanderer and Melanie since they were so different. I thought it was funny how they would silently argue with each other, their personalities clashed but did so very well; it made for a very interesting and fun dialog. Sometimes the dialog between them was a little hard to follow since Stephanie didn't use quotation marks when they were talking to each other but it was fun nonetheless. Plus you did get used to it after a while. :)
I really connected to Wanderer. She was pulled in so many different directions. She was very literally stuck in the middle of a love triangle. She came into the human's cave knowing that some hated her, some liked her, some loved her for the alien that she truly was and she in turn loved everyone. She was selfless. I am selfish and can admit it. She inspired me to want to be more selfless. To stop thinking only of myself and rather look at those around me; think about what my actions do to everyone.
This book had a wide range of emotion. It made me laugh, made me frustrated, made me mad, made me happy, made me cry, and made me cry. Oh did I mention that it made me cry?! LOL It was a great book and definitely worth reading. :)
Advice from Yoda
This is WAY too long for a Facebook status update but was WAY too hilarious not to share it....LOL
I posted a status about being anxious for my class that starts tonight and got this email from Yoda, my friend he is...
 "Nervousness leads to anxiety; anxiety leads to fear...
'Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.'
You Missy are a jedi, I can see Yoda preaching to you (Ive changed some of this to suite you).  'Ready are you? What know you of ready? For eight hundred years have I trained Jedi. My own counsel will I keep on who is to be trained. A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. This one a long time have I watched. All her life has she looked away... to the future, to the next cup of coffee. Never her mind on where she was. Hmm? What she was doing. Hmph. Caffine. Heh. Nail Polish. Heh. A Jedi craves not these things. You are reckless.'
Beware of the dark side. Nervousness, coffee, anxiety; the dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Obi-Wan's apprentice. "
LMAO!!!! Coffee and nail polish are my vices I don't see myself giving them up anytime soon...However, I'll try not to let my anxiety and fear consume me.
Thanks I have to Yoda.
Your Jedi,
Jessy <3
P.S. Yoda, my friend. You will be glad to know that I actually just watched Episode 1 the other day. :)
This Weeks Confessional
My confessions:
I have wanted a stiff drink AND thought it was Friday since Monday.
I stubbed my toe so bad that it split my toenail and my only worry was that my toenail would look weird when I paint it again.
I did not say nice words when I stubbed my toe, in fact some might be surprised as to what I did say.
I still have not finished reading my book club book. The meeting is next Friday, 8/24, at my house...Oops. It would be horrible if the host didn't read The Host; guess I'd better get reading.
I have wanted to beat my head against the wall more than once.
I have yet to send my letter of the month even though I wrote it at the tail end of July. I need stamps.
I left my iPod at work for one night and went through withdraws. I didn't know what to do with myself.
I now have the song "I don't know what to do with myself" stuck in my head and am mentally singing along with Cameron Diaz' horrible karaoke version from My Best Friends Wedding.
I have been frustrated with students who register for classes late. Classes start next week guys...
I can NOT wait until the weekend!! I hope it goes as slow as this week has. lol
I am confessing in advance for the stiff drink that I may have to have tomorrow night. LOL
Blogger's Block
Ok so I watched this vlog yesterday where the person was having vlogger's block so he just kept talking. It was kinda funny because he had a clown that he was talking to, but he was talking to them about the fact that he didn't have anything to talk about. (How about "Why the heck do you have a clown in your room?") LOL Well, I am really having blogger's block. I really want to blog because I've been missing it, but I can't think of anything interesting to blog about. So, instead I'm going to ramble. LOL Here are some totally random things that have been on my mind lately...
First, I haven't been doing very well with exercising. :( I guess it is true that exercising at home is harder than if you go to a gym or take a class. So, I am going to sign up for the gym at my work. They have this employee incentive that if you work out for 33 hours over the semester they will give you $25. I figure 2 hours a week wouldn't be too hard to accomplish. Plus I would be able to tone, make myself look like I've lost weight (cuz I still don't see the difference in myself) and maybe it will give me a little more confidence. I am also going to be taking English 102 this semester, simply because the instructor was my sub last semester and he was awesome! Thinking about taking a class makes me a little nervous because of all of the partial seizures that I had during English 101 last semester. I am on new meds now so hopefully my meds were the issue and I won't have any partial seizures during this class. We'll find out; in the meantime, I'm trying not to think about it.
New topic, totally random. I love Spotify and I have really been enjoying the "Singer-Songwriter" radio station lately for three reasons. First, the music awesome. It's a little melancholy but I think the songs are exactly what I have been needing. Second, it is making me broaden my music horizons. There are some songs that come up that I am like "ummmm...dislike aka...skip", but then there are others that I absolutely LOVE! The last reason that I love the new radio feature, is because I don't have to upgrade my account in order to listen to it on my iPod, and I can listen to it as long as I want, unlike Pandora who now gives you a time limit unless you upgrade. That third reason kind of sounds like two reasons doesn't it?! O well. lol
Third random topic. Just so you know why I am letting everyone know when I am skipping to a new topic is because the topics aren't connected in my brain like at all, so I'm sure they're not connected in yours. LOL Anyway, as most of you know, I am in a book club. This month we are reading "The Host" by Stephanie Meyer. I don't know what it is but I can not seem to get into the book club books. So far I have finished all of them and I am very happy with the outcomes and have been so glad to have read the books.  But I just can't seem to get into them until the half way mark and this one is no different. Every time I try to read this book, I fall asleep. This month the book club is meeting at my house, I would be a horrible host if I didn't read "The Host." LOL!! I have two weeks until the meeting so I guess I'd better get reading eh?!
Fourth topic, this one is kind of connected - at least in my brain. I am really getting annoyed with my house. I am so very glad that we've caught up with the kitchen and the living room but now my bedroom is driving me batty. I have to do laundry and I really want to be organized. So the reason it is connected in my brain, is because it something that I SHOULD be doing - rather than just blogging about it.
I think I have rambled long enough. Now I must get off  this computer, that would include not getting sucked into Pinterest or Facebook (which has been hard lately) and either read or accomplish something in my house!! We'll see how that turns out. LOL
Sincerely yours, even with blogger's block,
Jessy <3
The Nail Files 8/10/12
I'm linking up with two fabulous ladies this week and sharing my nail designs.
It's been a couple weeks since I've linked up so I have three designs.
The first is a cute turtle design that I did for my friend who wanted something green :)
And the other two are ones that I did for the Olympics first the nail design
I tried water marbling and got it to a certain extent, but I learned that it is picky. Your water HAS to be room temperature - no tap, no warm - room temperature. Plus it's best to use newer nail polishes, ones that haven't thickened.
Last one is my monthly pedicure Olympic Style ;)
I must say the Union flag was much easier to do on my fingers than it was on my toes. LOL
Remembering Mom-Mom
Last week on August 1st, marked 5 years since my grandma, Mom-Mom, passed away. It is really hard for me to believe that it has already been five years, but then sometimes it feels like longer that that too. I felt bad that I didn't post something about her on August 1st but life happens. I did write a journal entry for her tho. :)
For those of you who don't know, I named Mom-mom. She was my mom's mom so it was a fitting name for her. After I coined her name, it stuck and everyone called her Mom-Mom, whether they were her grand-kids or not. LOL I have some simple thoughts and memories that I would like to share about Mom-Mom.
She was a woman who loved cats, I must have inherited that trait from her.
She was a bargain shopper and taught my mom and I everything we know. Whenever we would go shopping at a thrift store and got a parking place right up front she thought it was a good omen and that we were going to find really good deals that day. I still see those close parking spots as a good omens.
She loved to have people play with her hair. It was kinda funny, maybe gross to some, but she used to have me sit on the back of her couch and pluck out gray hairs. LOL
She must have loved music because a lot of the memories that I have about Mom-mom stem around music. She had a player piano that we would play rolls on and sing along to songs like "Teddy Bear Picnic" and "Great Balls of Fire." Mom-mom also got a music book for her piano. This was a special book that came with stickers for the keys so you didn't have to know the notes in order to play the piano. I got that book out the other day and started flipping through old songs that I remember playing when I was little.
Overall Mom-mom was Spunky, I think that must've been her middle name, Saundra Spunky Gerber. Yep sounds about right! She was funny, silly and a joy to be around. I miss her. I can't wait to see her again someday. Until then, she gets to watch over me and I get to reminisce about all of the great times that we had. :)
Love you Mom-Mom,
Jessy <3
Jamba Juice or Starbucks THAT is the question!?
Dear Jamba Juice & Starbucks,
Why must you always be right next to each other? I went to Jamba Juice this morning simply because I have wanted one for weeks now. However, in the process I had to pass up the wonderful smell of Starbucks that was right next door. I ALMOST changed my mind at the last second and thought about going to Starbucks instead. However, I fought the urge because I know that Jamba Juice is probably better for me or at least more "breakfastey" than just coffee.
I may be regretting my choice now, because I passed up the caffeine. I am not awake and just sent an email that was directed toward my boss and forgot to include her on the email. Fail... Jamba Juice, I really hope hope that your "energy boost" kicks in and wakes me up a little bit. If not, /soup nazi *No customer for YOU!* LOL
Your torn and extremely frustrated customer,
Jessy <3
Exercise - What is that?!
I have always been overweight and I've hated it. I tried this diet, I did water aerobics for a while, and then tried that diet and then another exercise routine and then yet another diet; nothing ever seemed to work. Fairly recently, two people in one day, asked me if I'd been losing weight, I thought "I don't know." I went home and weighed myself and I was down by 15 pounds. I really thought that the scale was lying to me, but then I started to notice that my clothes were getting looser; I know that can't lie.
Right around March of this year I stopped drinking soda (which I'm finding out is a big step in weight loss), my hubby started cooking more at home as opposed to us eating out, and I haven't been eating as much as I used to. So maybe I can pin down the main points to my weight loss. However it feels weird because I didn't really stop eating what I normally eat and I haven't counted calories at all. I guess it is the little changes in eating habits that really help.
I am happy to say that since March I have lost a little over 30 pounds! It feels great. However even though I have lost the weight, I still feel fat. Now maybe every girl always feels "fat." But I still have this thought in the back of my mind, "Jessica, maybe if you were working out, you would feel and look better than you do." Every time I think about exercising, that's always as far as it gets. I am so uncoordinated it's not even funny. My hubby laughs at me because I can't even clap and sing at the same time. Wow, that's probably not an admission that I should let the whole world know about...O well it's out there. Anyway, because of being uncoordinated I won't go to an exercise class. I just won't. I came across this picture the other day and it made me go "Wow..." Every step on this picture is sooooo true.
Because of my coordination "issues", I've told myself for a long time "I can't do it." Even in my own house, with the door shut, following a YouTube video, I told myself "Nope, can't do it. I can't keep up. I'm not coordinated enough to even try to do that."
Lately, since I have been losing weight (which I also thought I could never do) I've been thinking, "I want to exercise." In May, I went to my neurologist and she recommended trying yoga because I have been struggling with anxiety. Here again, I thought "I can't do it." But because my doctor recommended it, I went from "I can't do it" to "Yes, I did it!" I still have anxiety issues but now I know that there is something that I can do to help myself.
So having accomplished being able to do yoga for relaxation, I thought "I'll try to do yoga for exercise." Very quickly, I stumbled down to the "I can't do it" step. So when it comes to exercise lately, I have been stepping between "I want to do it" and "How do I do it?" I wish they were real steps because then I would at least be getting exercise. LOL
Last night I finally told myself, "Jessica, you're going to go and find out HOW to exercise. Find something that you CAN do." I looked on YouTube for videos, because I find those work best for me. I can workout without leaving my living room and avoid exposing my lack of coordination to an entire classroom of people. I found an 8 min video called, When you think you CAN'T workout." (Yes that is a link to the video) My interest was peaked so I watched it. Afterward I thought, "I'll try to do it." I didn't have all of the things that she used in the video, but I found stuff around the house that could work and I tried it. Turns out I can't do it as easily as the woman in the video, but Obviously I didn't die either.
After my workout, I was inspired and wanted to blog about it, but couldn't find this stupid picture. I knew it was on my iPod but my iPod was in desperate need of a break. So I went looking for the picture on Facebook, couldn't find it. Then I ended up on Pinterest thinking, "Surely someone has it posted there as inspiration." No one did, but I did find an awesome website through Pinterest that I am Definitely going to use!!! There are some specific areas that I want to work on but didn't know how on earth I could target those areas; this website tells exactly how.
The website has an "Exercise Finder" (Yes, another link). The exercise finder has an avatar that you can click on what ever part of your body that you want to work on and it will take you to a place that has listed exercises for that specific area. Pure Awesome!! Just what I needed! I clicked through a few of these and kept thinking, "I can do that, and that and I'll try that one."
I am inspired. I feel like I turned a corner or have at least taken another step up to "I'll try to do it" and "I can do it." I'm sure I'll be on those two steps for a while but at least I've moved up from "I can't do it."
Now that I have rambled on, I hope to inspire a few of you who maybe think that you CAN'T do it. You. Can. Do. It. Trust me, if I can do it, anyone can do it. :)
Hopefully Your Exercise Inspiration,
Jessy <3
