Quizzical Question: Sleep?! What is that?!

I haven't done a Quizzical Question in a while and tonight I have a question for ya, but first a little back-story.

Ok, so I am a night owl, this is a known fact. Lately I am finding that it is getting harder for me to go to sleep at night. This whole week I've had to drink tea and stay up later than usual before I'll get tired enough to sleep. Last night my brain wouldn't shut off and tonight I feel a little sleepy but here I am...drinking "Sleepytime" tea and blogging. LOL

So my quizzical question is; what do you do when YOU can't sleep?! I think I need some pointers. lol Also, does anyone know if drinking warm milk really helps or is that just a myth...lol

Welcome to week two of Pinteresting Wednesdays - Halloween Edition!!

This week I am Pinning about Halloween decorations and parties!! So let's get started :)

Spooky DIY Decorations

I really loved all three of these unique looking decorations and they were super easy!! I really liked the black candles because they are flame-less and you make them out of paper towel rolls. Talk about cool!!

Potion Bottles
Black Candles
Floating Ghosts

Fun with Pumpkins!!

I found some really cute pumpkin designs and ideas. I could've posted ALL of them here but didn't...lol Here are some that I really liked.

Spray-paint pumpkins
Modge Podge Pumpkins
Carve BOTH sides of the pumpkin!

For the pumpkin that is carved on both sides, you just etch the side that says "Boo!", don't cut all the way through. :) Also, I am on the look out for fake pumpkins so I can modge podge them and have them last all year! It would make me cry to throw out such a cute pumpkin! lol

Getting Yourself Ready!!
(for the Ladies)

Be sure that you add to the fun by getting all dressed up for your party, even if it's just some fun makeup or painting your nails!

The Party: Fun for Kids

I loved the idea to make Haunted Houses, I think I will have to do that one day whether it's a party or not. And the other link has a lot of game ideas!

The Party: Fun Food

I found some fun and easy snacks for your party, Candy Corn Bark, a Sweet & Salty Halloween Treat and a yummy Pumpkin dip. mmmmm

The Party: Fun Drinks

Now for the drinks, I found some creepy adult drinks but I mainly wanted to share some ideas on presenting cauldron drinks. The first was, as always, Dry Ice; it is perfect for a cauldron. But the other really cute idea that I found was to place your cauldron over a "fire", which is really just some branches, yellow & orange tissue paper and Christmas lights. How ingenious is THAT?!

Make it Burn!! ;)
Creepy Jello Shots: Adults Only
Dry Ice: How to use it

Well, that concludes my Halloween editions of Pinteresting Wednesdays! I hope between the costumes and the party decorations and food you got some fun ideas for Halloween!! If you are having a party be sure to be safe, have a lot of fun and don't forget the dry ice!! That alone makes any punch bowl spooky enough for Halloween night! ;)

In Memory of Michael Elm

No, Michael Elm is not a family member, a friend, or even an acquaintance; he is a stranger to me. I never met him and I didn't even know his name before October 17th, 2011. Michael was a soldier in the US Army and he gave his life for his country on October 14th, 2011.

I have the privilege of knowing Michael's aunt and uncle, both of whom are very dear to my heart. I went to Michael's Celebration of Life on Sunday to give them my condolences and my support. I have found that you can learn a lot about someone who you've never met just by hearing all of the stories about their life through their friends and family.

Michael was very loved. He was funny and witty and did extraordinary things with his life. He was very close to his family. He knew how to have a good time. He loved Peanut M&M's. He stood for what he thought was right and never wavered. He died at the age of 25 but he lived far beyond his years. He was a true solider to the end and from what I've heard, Michael wouldn't have had it any other way.

Early last week, I found myself frustrated with the fact that our soldiers are still over in Afghanistan. I thought about how this could've been avoided if he were here on American soil instead of over seas. But after hearing about how much he loved the Army and about how joining shaped Michael's life and made him the man that he was, somehow I'm not as frustrated as I was a week ago.

I have a lot of respect for all of our soldiers and their families. I can't imagine what it would be like to live with the "what if" scenarios that they all have to live with on a daily basis. It takes a lot for parents and loved ones to let their soldiers go and fight for our freedom; knowing that they might not return. But our world is a changed world, a better world, because our soldiers are willing to fight and stand for what they believe.

Michael may be fallen but he will not be forgotten. His life, his stories and his humor will continue to be lived out in everyone's memory of him. I may not have known Michael personally, but I can tell you one thing, I will never look at bag of Peanut M&M's the same way ever again.

RIP Spc. Michael Davis Elm (1985 - 2011) ~ Fallen but not Forgotten

DIY: Eye-Makeup remover

I just thought I would share a DIY eye-makeup remover that you can make at home. Yes, of course, I found the recipe on Pinterest. Have I mentioned how much I love that site?! Anyway, eye-makeup remover. It is 3 ingredients; Baby Oil, Baby Shampoo (tear free) and water.

1 Cup Water
1 1/2 Tbs Baby Shampoo
1/8 tsp Baby Oil

Mix it all up and put it in a bottle. Then just use a little bit on a cotton ball to remove your eye-makeup at the end of the day.

As for what container to put your eye-makeup remover in, I found that it fit perfectly in an old 10 oz Nail Polish Remover bottle. Just be sure that you clean out the bottle really, really good before putting your eye-makeup remover in it. That could be bad... But hey what a good way to save a few bucks and save the environment too. :)

Note: The lady who originally posted this recipe got some flack about using Baby Oil. She said that if you preferred to use something else, you could use Coconut oil or Olive oil too.

mmmm...Tea

So I think I can feel a cold coming on so I have been taking it easy today. I talked with my mom earlier today and she recommended drinking hot tea. Ha, there is a thought. After that I wanted apple cider, which I don't have, so I braved my tea cupboard. I say "tea cupboard" but it's really more like a section of a cupboard. lol Earlier I had some Orange Spice tea, which sounded close enough to cider - it wasn't.

Now, a few hours later, I thought I would have another cup. This time I decided to get really brave and try one of the loose teas in my cupboard, Jasmine. I must say, it is a very pretty tea and has a very pleasant taste. Kinda has a slight flowery smell, go figure that Jasmine would smell flowery. lol

Now the whole process of getting out my tea strainer and using the loose tea took me back a few years to when I used to drink loose tea on a semi-regular basis - well at least more than I drink it now. lol In the little town of Meridian, ID there was this cute little tea house that my mom and I discovered one day. We went there a few times and even got my little brother to go with us once too. :)

If we didn't visit the tea house, we had some of their loose tea and would make it at home. If I remember right they had a Vanilla tea that we really, really liked. I could really go for some of that tea right about now. It would be perfect to pair with my memory of tea with my mom. :)

Ahhhh, memories... <3

O How Pinteresting!! 10/12/11

Here are some of my favorite pins from this week.

I am so proud of myself for two weeks in a row I have actually made something that I found on Pinterest!! YAY the time is Not Totally wasted! *giggle* We had some friends over on Sunday, my hubby made his yummy shredded pork street tacos and we decided to pair it with a Mexican'ish dessert, Sopapilla Cheesecake. mmmmm They were really easy and really, really yummy!

Sopapilla Cheesecake Recipe

As we all heard, Steve Jobs, Co-founder of Apple, died this week. I don't know about anyone else but I didn't even know that he had cancer. So it was a real shock to me. After his passing, there was a video running around Facebook that was his Commencement Address at Stanford in 2005. The first time I saw the video in my News Feed I thought "Commencement Address?! I don't want to watch this" and then I saw it pop up again and decided to watch it. lol I clicked on it and noticed it was 15 minutes long!! I thought "Ugh." But I watched it and now, I would recommend the video to everyone! Steve lived a very interesting life and he gave a lot of wisdom in that address. Click HERE for the video. Trust me, it is worth the 15 minutes.

"Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life."- Steve Jobs

This week, I found quite a few pins that were kid related. I don't have kids yet but I pinned them so I could remember them for later.

First was the "Time-Out" jar. The idea is when your child is being unruly shake the jar and have them sit and watch it until the glitter settles. The solution is thick so it takes about 5 mins for the glitter to settle. In theory it works, I'll have to test it someday. :)

Time Out Jar Instructions

Next was the Remedy website. 7 Home Remedies for different ailments. She had some really good, natural ideas for things from ear infections to teething.

Home Remedy Blog Post

DIY Febreeze

Last was an Idea for "Monster Spray". I thought what a simple idea to get rid of the bad monsters plus leave a soothing smell in the child's room while they go to sleep. A while ago I found a DIY for Febreeze on Pinterest which might be perfect for this "Monster Spray". :)

I found so many funny things on Pinterest this week, I have to share a few that made me crack up laughing!!! The first two you can click to enlarge. :)

I thought the last one was particularly hilarious because someone had also added "And the pins putting -into- little groups thing" as the description of the Pin...LMAO

And last I wanted to end with a little bit of Wednesday Wisdom. Remember that "Hope is the little voice you hear whisper 'maybe' when it seems the entire world is shouting 'No!'".
