Exercise - What is that?!

I have always been overweight and I've hated it. I tried this diet, I did water aerobics for a while, and then tried that diet and then another exercise routine and then yet another diet; nothing ever seemed to work. Fairly recently, two people in one day, asked me if I'd been losing weight, I thought "I don't know." I went home and weighed myself and I was down by 15 pounds. I really thought that the scale was lying to me, but then I started to notice that my clothes were getting looser; I know that can't lie.

Right around March of this year I stopped drinking soda (which I'm finding out is a big step in weight loss), my hubby started cooking more at home as opposed to us eating out, and I haven't been eating as much as I used to. So maybe I can pin down the main points to my weight loss. However it feels weird because I didn't really stop eating what I normally eat and I haven't counted calories at all. I guess it is the little changes in eating habits that really help.

I am happy to say that since March I have lost a little over 30 pounds! It feels great. However even though I have lost the weight, I still feel fat. Now maybe every girl always feels "fat." But I still have this thought in the back of my mind, "Jessica, maybe if you were working out, you would feel and look better than you do." Every time I think about exercising, that's always as far as it gets. I am so uncoordinated it's not even funny. My hubby laughs at me because I can't even clap and sing at the same time. Wow, that's probably not an admission that I should let the whole world know about...O well it's out there. Anyway, because of being uncoordinated I won't go to an exercise class. I just won't. I came across this picture the other day and it made me go "Wow..." Every step on this picture is sooooo true.

Because of my coordination "issues", I've told myself for a long time "I can't do it." Even in my own house, with the door shut, following a YouTube video, I told myself "Nope, can't do it. I can't keep up. I'm not coordinated enough to even try to do that."

Lately, since I have been losing weight (which I also thought I could never do) I've been thinking, "I want to exercise." In May, I went to my neurologist and she recommended trying yoga because I have been struggling with anxiety. Here again, I thought "I can't do it." But because my doctor recommended it, I went from "I can't do it" to "Yes, I did it!" I still have anxiety issues but now I know that there is something that I can do to help myself.

So having accomplished being able to do yoga for relaxation, I thought "I'll try to do yoga for exercise." Very quickly, I stumbled down to the "I can't do it" step. So when it comes to exercise lately, I have been stepping between "I want to do it" and "How do I do it?" I wish they were real steps because then I would at least be getting exercise. LOL

Last night I finally told myself, "Jessica, you're going to go and find out HOW to exercise. Find something that you CAN do." I looked on YouTube for videos, because I find those work best for me. I can workout without leaving my living room and avoid exposing my lack of coordination to an entire classroom of people. I found an 8 min video called, When you think you CAN'T workout." (Yes that is a link to the video) My interest was peaked so I watched it. Afterward I thought, "I'll try to do it." I didn't have all of the things that she used in the video, but I found stuff around the house that could work and I tried it. Turns out I can't do it as easily as the woman in the video, but Obviously I didn't die either.

After my workout, I was inspired and wanted to blog about it, but couldn't find this stupid picture. I knew it was on my iPod but my iPod was in desperate need of a break. So I went looking for the picture on Facebook, couldn't find it. Then I ended up on Pinterest thinking, "Surely someone has it posted there as inspiration." No one did, but I did find an awesome website through Pinterest that I am Definitely going to use!!! There are some specific areas that I want to work on but didn't know how on earth I could target those areas; this website tells exactly how.

The website has an "Exercise Finder" (Yes, another link). The exercise finder has an avatar that you can click on what ever part of your body that you want to work on and it will take you to a place that has listed exercises for that specific area. Pure Awesome!! Just what I needed! I clicked through a few of these and kept thinking, "I can do that, and that and I'll try that one."

I am inspired. I feel like I turned a corner or have at least taken another step up to "I'll try to do it" and "I can do it." I'm sure I'll be on those two steps for a while but at least I've moved up from "I can't do it."

Now that I have rambled on, I hope to inspire a few of you who maybe think that you CAN'T do it. You. Can. Do. It. Trust me, if I can do it, anyone can do it. :)

Hopefully Your Exercise Inspiration,
Jessy <3

The Nail Files! 7/27/12

I am linking up with Vickilious Life and Fabulous but Evil this week. If you want to join in the fun click on the logo above to get started!

Ok, so it's been a couple weeks. I have had had 3 different designs since I last posted. So here we go.

I went to California for a few days and came up with something really simple for my few days before my Cali trip. I did a french mani with green glitter on the natural part of the nail and then aqua tips. Loved it!

Once in Cali, my mom and I went to Ulta! So after a major shopping spree we ended up doing pedicures (another thing to check off on my list 101 things in 1001 days). My mom got a really pretty red at Ulta. We were staying in Anaheim so I could not resist a Disney themed pedicure. I ended up doing the same design on my nails because I loved it so much!

This weeks mani was really simple and really hard to see through my crappy webcam but it is really pretty irl. It is black with Sally Hansen's Vintage Violet crackle and a little bit of glitter. The contrast between the black and the purple is really subtle but looks really cool! I find that crackles have more crackle to them if you do something other than just a straight line, so I like to scatter mine. A straight line down, a couple diagonal, some slanted inward, some outward - just try to keep it all one coat and don't have a lot of overlap.

I got some cool nail polish at Ulta in Cali. I got 2 crackles and some magnetic polish! I am soooooo excited about the magnetic polish. I have to get some fun magnets for it tho, cuz the one that came with the little set (it was a set of 4 mini polishes) sucks and only has one line. :( I'm sure I can find some fun magnet on Amazon or something. I can't wait!!! :D

Book Review: The Forgotten Garden

The Forgotten Garden
Click the picture to follow me on Good Reads

"Cassandra is lost, alone and grieving. Her much loved grandmother, Nell, has just died and Cassandra, her life already shaken by a tragic accident ten years ago, feels like she has lost everything dear to her. But an unexpected and mysterious bequest from Nell turns Cassandra's life upside down and ends up challenging everything she thought she knew about herself and her family.

Inheriting a book of dark and intriguing fairytales written by Eliza Makepeace - the Victorian authoress who disappeared mysteriously in the early twentieth century - Cassandra takes her courage in both hands to follow in the footsteps of Nell on a quest to find out the truth about their history, their family and their past; little knowing that in the process, she will also discover a new life for herself."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am a girl who loves a good mystery. That is what this book is, a great mystery! Cassandra is sent on this journey to discover her grandmother, Nell's, past. Nell grew up thinking that she was the daughter of one couple, finding out that she was abandoned as a small child and then died never knowing who her real parents were or where she came from. Nell literally handed her granddaughter, Cassandra, the key to unlocking the mystery of her past. So Cassandra decided to finish the research that her grandma started 30 years earlier.
Parts of this book were a little bit confusing to me. One thing that confused me about the book was the style in which it was written. It followed two, eventually three, story lines. It followed Cassandra on her quest, it followed Nell's discoveries and eventually followed Eliza's story line as well. Once you make a conscious effort to notice the year at the beginning of each chapter you are good to go and it gets less confusing.
There was one other key point that confused me and that was figuring out who was related to who and how this person or that person fit into the story. There was one point while I was reading that I literally had to stop, get out a piece of paper and work backwards from Cassandra so I could see how everyone fit into the puzzle. Once I saw it on paper it made a little more sense and I was able to continue reading.
Other than those two minor frustrations it was a great book. I'm not if it's just me or if everyone had a hard time getting into the book, but there comes a point in the book when you just can't put it down. As Cassandra gets closer and closer to solving this mystery, you think that you're on the brink of discovering something big and then the chapter ends and flips back to the year 1900!!! Seriously, really hard to put or down after that point.
One thing that I really liked was the fact that they incorporated some of Eliza's fairy tales into the book. Reading some of her fairy tales made me wish that I had a copy of her book to read. I think the author should make a book with all of Eliza's fairy tales. I would read that one over and over.
If you decide to read this book and can't get into it, don't give up on it!! It is a fantastic book and I'm so glad that my book club is expanding my horizons when it comes to book genres. It's been great to read some books that I probably never would've read otherwise. :)
Oh Blogger, How I Love You
Oh Blogger, How I love you.
You always to listen to my woes;
But you also never seem to mind if I talk about my toes.
You never get upset with me when I don't blog as often as I should;
Even if you asked me to leave, you know I never I would.
Oh Blogger, How I love you.
You always hear me out;
You patiently listen to me, even when I shout.
You've helped me learn to use my voice;
You've also given me friends who listen, because they have no choice. ;)
Oh Blogger, How I love you.
You've been with me through thick and thin;
But you also let my friends comment and bring their sunshine in.
You are always there to hear me, to celebrate and cheer;
I can't believe that today I can celebrate you being in my life for a year.
Happy Blogaversary!!!
Your Corney Little Poet,
Jessy <3
P.S. This little poem is really about all of you! Thank you for listening to me. This blog has given me an outlet to express some of my emotions that otherwise would've been bottled up. I want to thank my friends that encouraged me to start a blog. I had always thought about writing a blog, but never considered my life something worthy enough to write about. So thank you for the encouragement. Here's to the next year, I can't wait to see what life has in store! :)
California or BUST!!!
I guess I should've said that before my trip, Oh Well...lol Be prepared for a LONG post, just warnin' ya. I had a blast in California and just spent the last two hours going through making collages of pictures, otherwise I would have to post a blog entry for each day that I was there. I let my inner tourist out to play and ended up with almost 200 pictures. lol YAY for digital cameras, I can't even imagine how many rolls of film that would be. LOL Anyway, without further ado here are snippets from my trip.
My first collage is a little bit from all of the places that we went. I stayed at the Peacock hotel, which is literally right behind Disney so I could hear the fireworks every night. We ate at the "Pig N Whistle", ate at Fish Camp, went to the OC Fair, Downtown Disney, Newport Beach/Balboa CA., ate at Newport Landing and went dolphin/whale watching.
The two pics near the bottom right of this college are some treasures that I got while on my trip. For those of you who don't know, I collect pencils so I came home with 3 pencils, a pen and a new key chain. So I guess I am a collector of key chains now too. LOL
The other little picture is one of all of my trip treasures. My mom got both of us a jar to keep small trinkets in as little mementos from our trip. I may have to keep doing this for all my trips. It was kind of fun to find little things and those trinkets will make the memories last forever. :) I like to think of them as vacation joy boxes, in bottle form. ;)
I think from here, we will go by day. This is day number 1. I got to LA in the middle of the afternoon so we went to Hollywood Blvd to eat and wait for the traffic to die down before making our way to Anaheim. I always love going to Hollywood. The things you see and the business of it all just makes me feel somewhat invigorated. Only in Hollywood can you find people dressed as Darth Vader with their little tag along R2D2 and another person dressed as Elmo. Oh and ONLY in Hollywood can you find parking meters that take credit cards. I'm sure there are other places but this was a first for me. LOL In Hollywood, we ate at the Pig N Whistle (mmmmm Halibut fish and chips) and walked up and down the Blvd - My inner tourist taking pictures all along the way.
She took LOTS of pictures!!!! One of the ladies stood right in the middle of my shot, How Rude!!
Day number 2 was a very simple day. It was nice to be able to just relax for a day and spend time with my mom and Jay. My mom and I dropped Moonius off at the beach and we went to Ulta!! /sigh....every girls paradise!! I got $22 worth of stuff for $7! Yes, I am an awesome bargain shopper! I learned from the best, that would be my mom. ;) After Ulta we went back to the beach and discovered that Jay was waiting for us because it was too cold to lay on the beach. I think I left the sun in AZ because it was somewhat cloudy the whole time I was there. Since the beach was too cold we went to Fish Camp for lunch instead (I got grilled Salmon and salad mmmm) and then just went back to the hotel for the rest of the day. My mom taught me how to knit and we did pedicures. After I got home I made this tiny square of knitting to put in my little treasure jar. :)
Since we were so close to Disney, I did Disney themed pedicures on our toes. I offered to paint Moon's toes, but he wasn't too keen on that idea. For the Disney design, we painted our nails red, and then I did a white tip on our big toes, made a little tiny Mickey silhouette on the white tip and then put white dots on the rest of the nail. They turned out really cute!
Day number 3 was Friday the 13th. Eeep! It was the most awesome Friday the 13th Ever! The Orange County Fair opened that day and had free admission for the first hour, so we stood in line and waited. The picture in the top left is a picture of the line once we could see the gate; it was much longer than that, believe me. The fair was a blast!! I had never really been to big fair like that, so the only fried fair food that I'd ever eaten was funnel cake. I made up for it that day. I had a corn dog, fried cheese, a funnel cake (just a little one), a fried Snickers (omg...to die for), cotton candy (of which I still have some) and a gelato. Holy Hannah! I won't need ANY fried food for a while.
While at the fair, we saw some fun dancers and shopped till we literally dropped! The pretty flowers are hair clips that my mom and I got. It wasn't until we went to put them on that we realized that we had picked the exact same ones. If I believed in reincarnation, I think we may have been twins in another lifetime. LOL After the fair my mom and I took a nap back at the hotel, like I said we literally dropped. After the nap we taught Moonius how to play Hand and Foot and then we all went to Downtown Disney. I had to go to the Gigantic Disney store and I love the lego store too. We ate at Napolini (margarita pizza), caught some of Disney's Fireworks through the trees and called it a day! I think at some point that night I caught my mom and Jay dancing to the wonderful music that was being played in Downtown Disney. ;)
Day number 4. This was my last full day in CA and it was a BLAST!!! We went to Newport Beach, which is in Balboa California. Balboa is my new favorite place in all of everywhere. I loved the beach. I loved the town itself. It was a touristy town with all of the little fun shops right in the middle of residential area.
We did two things while in Balboa. First we spent some good time at the beach. By the end of the day, I was incognito as a lobster. Luckily, I think I have put on enough lotion so that it is now a tan and won’t peel. :) While at the beach I took lots of pictures (of course) and enjoyed getting my feet wet. When I went down to the shore I hadn’t planned on coming back half drenched but it happened - I should've just known. Luickly the camera survived! ;)
Since I had my little jar that I had to fill up with mementos from my trip I gathered up a bunch of seashells. The whole time chanting, “I’m picking up seashells, along the sea shore.” LOL There were a couple of pictures that I wanted to get while I was on the beach and those were some pics of my feet with the sea foam coming up to them. (I know, I’m weird) After a LOT of trial and error I did manage to get a couple shots that I really liked. In addition to the pictures of the sea, I also took a little bit of video of the waves. I love the sound of the ocean.
The second excursion that we took in Balboa was lunch and dolphin/whale watching!! We ate lunch at Newport Landing and someone who reserved a table was a "no-show" so we even got a pretty view! :) We saw lots of birds before we left on our boat to go see dolphins. I learned that Jay really likes birds, so I took pictures just for him. :) Our ship was the "Nautilus" and off we went.
I had never been out on the water before. I learned two things very quickly, one I'm not prone to sea-sickness, YAY!!! And two, it is very, very, VERY cold out on the water. I had dressed for the beach: shorts, tank top, flip flops...that is NOT how you dress to go out to sea. LOL Luckily I had brought a shirt with me, in case I got too much sun but that was definitely not enough. Note to self: Next time you go out to sea, bring a jacket, and maybe a blanket. LOL
Along the way before we got to open sea the tour guide was telling us about the beautiful houses along the shore. I took several pictures of them but I now I don't remember who they belonged to, with the exception of the house in the bottom left corner of this collage. That house, with the green awnings, was Shirley Temple's childhood home. :)
While out at sea, we saw many, many, many dolphins - but they are camera shy so it's hard to get good pictures of them. What they aren't shy of is video cameras! :) I only took a few snippets of video because video sucks my camera's batteries dry but I did edit them together and it is uploaded to YouTube. :)  We didn't see any whales. :( I tried to summon my inner Dory and speak "whale" but they didn't understand my dialect. LMAO!!!
Overall, my trip was awesome!! I made memories that will last a lifetime and had a blast too! ;)
To my Mom and Moonius, thank you so much for flying me out to spend some time with you!! The whole trip was a blast! I can't wait for the next trip. Hopefully one day I'll make it to Abilene. I really want to see your home in KS too!
Your California Girl,
Jessy <3
Musical Mondays 7/16/12
Musical Mondays
Musical Mondays is a link-up specifically for music. I want to know what you are listening to this week (or what you listened to last week). I encourage you to have some fun with this. Write a blog post about what you are listening to, include my logo or link back to my blog in your post and then include the link to your blog post in the link-up box below. I can't wait to read about what you are listening to!!
Ok so last week was a fun list of questions and songs. This week I'll make it really simple. What did you listen to the most last week?
I was gone to CA most of last week, so I didn't really listen to much. But my latest favorite is a Pandora station. I am in LOVE with the Soundtrack Pandora station. My friend Crystal introduced me to it and I love it now.
I am a singer; my mom says that I have been singing since I could talk. So listening to a Soundtrack Pandora station is fun because they like to play a lot of songs from Disney soundtracks so I can be found singing along to something from Beauty and the Beast to The Little Mermaid. LOL They play a lot of songs from Wicked too. I think I'll hear the whole soundtrack before I see the play...LOL
Your little singer,
Jessy <3
My train of thought...
Note to everyone in the world. I distract easily...
First I was one the phone with my mom and looking up tablets for her. Once we hung up the phone, I checked my email because I figured I was at my computer anyway.
My friend had sent me YouTube video link so of course I had to watch it.
The video that I watched on YouTube reminded me that I wanted to embed the video link into my blog post from earlier today; so I went to blogger and embedded my video.
I saw my camera sitting on my desk and remembered that I wanted to share some pictures on Facebook; so I edited and posted a picture.
While I was editing my picture, I had been remincing about all of the photos and found a video that I had wanted to post; so I edited the video and posted it to YouTube.
I went to go and share the video on Facebook and saw that I had comments about the picture that I had just posted; so I read and replied to them.
After all of this I looked back and realized just how easily I get distracted so I wanted to post a Facebook status about it.
I started the Facebook status and realized that it was going to be WAY too long for a status; so I went to Blogger and decided to blog about it instead..... LOL
As I am finishing this blog post I realize that I have 4 tabs open on my internet browser, YouTube, Gmail, Blogger and Facebook. Facebook has 4 notifications so OF course I'm going to have to check them when I am done blogging.
When I am done blogging I am going to have to Tweet the post out to all of my peeps, just for kicks...
Now I have to ask myself, What was I Supposed to be doing right now?! Oh, that's right...LAUNDRY!!!! LMAO
Your, super, super, easily distracted blogger,
Jessy <3
PS My also need to do dishes for my hubby so he can cook when he comes home in oh a half hour...Oops!
Oh and btw, I never posted the video to Facebook....LOL
It's Laundry Day!!!
I am finally going to get caught up on laundry today, well that is the plan anyway. How did I get so behind?!
Other than doing laundry, I am getting SUPER excited for my trip to California later this week. Not only do I get to go to the beach, but more importantly I get to see my mom!!! I haven't seen her since 2009...has it really been that long?! I miss her and I'm so glad that she was able to fly me out to spend some time at the beach with her and Moonius! (her hubby) :)
Okay so now I think I must continue to fold laundry so I can pack!!! I just wanted to make sure that EVERYONE knew that I am excited for my trip!! LOL
Your super excited beach-bound babe,
Jessy <3
PS I can't believe I put "babe" but nothing else seemed to fit. LOL!
PPS This is my "Laundry Day" song. ;)
The Nail Files!! 7/6/12
I am linking up with Vickilious Life and Fabulous but Evil this week. If you want to join in the fun click on the logo above to get started!
Soooo this week was OBVIOUSLY, the 4th of July so I had to do something fun with my nails. My friend send me a picture of paint splatter nails and I thought that would be fun so here is what I did.
I LOVED doing the paint splatter nails and almost did a tutorial but got distracted and ended up not having time. However, I will give you a few tips on doing paint splatter nails:
1. Lay something down on the table - it is MESSY!
2. Use Petroleum Jelly/Vaseline around you cuticles & even up your fingers a little bit - don't get it on the actual nail. Personally I think that Petroleum Jelly works better than taping off your fingers for two reasons. One, it's easy to apply and two, have you ever tried to paint your nails with your fingers all taped up?! It's difficult.
3. Use a long straw, not a short one. I saw a tutorial that said using a short straw gave you more control but I couldn't get the short straw to work at all.
4. It will not work every time. So don't get frustrated, just remember to have fun. Oh and maybe do this in a big room with lots ventilation. LOL
Your Patriotic Nail Artist,
             Jessy <3
P.S. I will be starting my own link up this Monday, called Musical Mondays!! If you want to join in the fun remember to follow my blog either by GFC or by email and I look forward to reading about what music you enjoy!! :)
Meh...Scattered Thoughts
You ever had one of those days when you just don't want to do anything?! That has been me lately. Like, I don't even really want to blog, but I feel like I just need to write. So, here is one of my infamous scattered posts, that is about absolutely nothing.
Things that I did today, and random thoughts:
I Skyped with my mom; we played Farkle on Facebook.
I didn't drink all of my coffee and probably should have.
I sorted laundry and put one load in but never got around to switching it over OR putting in another load.
I painted my nails for the 4th of July - their all patriotic and everything. That was fun! However, I think I am coming down off of a nail polish high.
I have a book that I should be reading for my book club but I'm only on chapter 7 and haven't felt like reading today.
I have been listening to Alex Goot on my Spotify channel all day.
I have been on YouTube looking for a karaoke track for one of Alex's songs - Living Addiction.
I tried to make a karaoke track myself with audacity and failed. If anyone knows of an instrumental track of Alex's song Living Addiction, I would really like one.
I am so ready to go to California and spend time with my mom.  I want to spend whole days just laying on the beach.
What else...I didn't eat anything until like 8pm tonight.
I have been home all by myself all day. It's funny, there's just something about being home alone that just makes life seem more boring.
I am now having second thoughts about posting this post so if anyone sees it, it will be a miracle.
Hmmmm, I think that is about it. I still don't feel any better. Writing out my thoughts usually makes me feel better; I guess it doesn't today.
What do you do when you feel "Meh..."?  Does anything make you feel better?
Now I am drawing little hearts...YAY for taking pictures of more hearts for my 101 challenge eh?!
Your bored beyond belief blogger,
Jessy <3
